I have really enjoyed mu first week working here at Durango Montessori School! It has been really interesting getting to relearn all of the methods and types of work, that the kids are using now, that I learned when I was a student here. And because I have some experience with this type of schooling, it has been really easy helping students and teaching them. Of all the students, I have spent the most time working the first graders to make sure that they are staying on task and getting their work done. Usually this has just consisted to me asking them what they are working on, making sure that they are actually working on it and helping them figure out what to do if they are stuck. By making sure that they understand their work and what jobs they have to do, they stay a lot more engaged and are less likely to get up, wander around, and distract their friends. Through working this first week, I have realized that I really enjoy working with the difficult students, or the students that are easily distracted and don't want to do their work. I think that I like working with these couple of students the most because I am able to spend a lot of time with just one student to make sure that they are working and understanding. I also get to know these students a lot better and get to understand what they need from the class and the rest of the teachers in order to be successful in their learning. Something that I think sets me and my internship apart from the others is that I am teaching at a school that I attended and that I was the first graduating class of. I am also getting to work with teacher that were my teachers when I was a student here at Durango Montessori. Because of this I think that my transition into my internship has gone a lot more smoothly than it would have had I gone somewhere else. |
